Apple announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 on Wednesday, while the Apple M5 Pro and M5 Max variants are expected to follow early next year. However, the Apple M6-based laptop is supposed to launch towards the end of 2026 or early 2027, which should be more exciting. A report from Bloomberg now reveals many new details on Apple's next-generation flagship laptop.
Most importantly, the MacBook Pro will receive a completely new design for the first time since the M1 version launched in 2021. The notebook will reportedly become thinner and lighter. The notch will be replaced by a punch hole, and the surrounding area will likely be used for a Dynamic Island. On the Apple iPhone 17, this space is used to show things like timers or the song that’s running.
What is particularly interesting is that the MacBook Pro will reportedly receive an advanced tandem OLED touchscreen, which would be a first in the entire Mac lineup. A completely newly developed hinge could prevent the display from moving when touching it with a finger. According to Bloomberg, the new MacBook M6 will also be several hundred dollars more expensive.
For reference, the current 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple M4 Pro starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch version costs at least $2,499. Apple is reportedly not developing any other Macs with touchscreens and is instead waiting for the reception of the MacBook Pro before making decisions regarding the MacBook Air and iMac.
